This typing test supports all major Tamil keyboard layouts used in government exams:

1. Tamil99: Developed by Tamil Nadu government in 1999, this is a modern phonetic-style layout designed specifically for Tamil. It is widely used in Tamil Nadu state government offices and is considered one of the easiest layouts to learn for Tamil speakers.

2. Tamil Inscript: The standard Unicode layout mandated by the Government of India. This is the official layout used in TNPSC exams and most central government typing tests conducted in Tamil Nadu.

3. Tamil Typewriter: Based on the traditional mechanical typewriter layout, this is used in older government departments and certain High Court typing tests. Candidates preparing for legacy exam formats should practice this layout.

4. English: Standard QWERTY layout for English typing, useful for candidates who need to practice bilingual document work common in government offices.

The TNPSC (Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission) specifies the following typing speed requirements for government posts:

Tamil Typing: A minimum of 25–30 WPM with an accuracy of 95% or above is required for most Typist, Junior Assistant, and Data Entry Operator posts.

Senior Grade Posts: Higher-level positions such as Senior Typist or Steno-Typist may require speeds of 35–40 WPM or more.

The exam is held twice a year (February & August) and is available at four levels — Sub-Junior, Junior, Senior, and Super Senior. The Senior Grade certificate in both Tamil and English typewriting is the minimum requirement for TNPSC Typist recruitment.

Tamil typing speed in government exams is primarily calculated using the character-based method:

Gross WPM:
Gross WPM = Total Characters Typed / 5 / Time (in minutes)

Net WPM (used in TNPSC & SSC exams):
